Yumesamdong, Zero Point, North Sikkim
Sikkim’s untouched beauty; Yumesamdong, Zero Point is a valley on the Lachung River about 15 km ahead of Yumthang. It is situated at 4724 m altitude in the North East of the State, popularly known as the Zero point which means the hindmost frontier of civilization. There are no roads further, just the landscapes completely covered with snow offering a majestic view contrasting with the patchy blue sky in between the fresh icy breeze. The place is adjacent to Chinese border. Thus it demands for an Inner Line Permit, which can be obtained from the Tourist Information Center or through any registered tour operator.

The snow-capped mountains and ice-fed valley of Yumesamdong provide a perfect setting to capture the cold nature at its best. Along with Yumesamdong one can also cover Yumthang Valley and Katao. Yumesamdong is just an hour drive beyond Yumthang; popularly known as the Valley of Flowers because of its rich meadows and fragrant breeze. Near to this there is another valley named Katao, sparsely covered with poppy, primulas and rhododendron. If one desires to get acquainted with the native culture and tradition of Sikkim, can visit Lachung village, just 24 km away from katao.
Situated at an altitude of 15,300 feet, Yumseamdong is located 15 km from Yumthang, in the Northeastern part of Sikkim almost on the Chinese border and thus is also known as Zero Point. Yumesamdong is the end of Yumthang Valley, an area perennially covered with snow. The path to Yumesamdong provides the traveler with thrill, adventure yet breathtaking landscapes of natural beauty. This valley is usually explored on yaks by the roving shepherds.
The Yumseamdong valley is located on the Lachung river 15 km ahead of Yumthang. Yumesamdong is famous for its 14 hot springs. These springs are believed to have medicinal properties in their waters providing relief from skin problems after having a bath here. The spring water is colorless, saline in taste and emits bubbles of hydrogen gas. Boasting of the beautiful Azalea flower, Yumesamdong is an angelic valley that is known for its scenic beauty. You can even catch a glimpse of the Himalayan Blue Sheep that are extremely rare grazing on the pasture. Yumesamdong, Yumthang Valley, Zero Point, and Katao can all be visited together. The Vehicle, Hotel, Food, etc. comes in packages that can be booked from Gangtok as there are formalities of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to be completed. Voter ID card, Driving License, or any other photo ID card is required along with 4 passport size photographs for obtaining the permit. As Sikkim is very close to the China border the Defense establishment tends to keep a very strict vigilance.

Also known as the zero Point the beauty is at its best in Winter or Spring. The best time to visit is between March – April. During this time the area is usually snow-covered yet, the roads are motorable. As Oxygen density here is slightly low, one should take adequate precautions. From December to May the entire region is snow-covered offering an amazing scene that is worth visiting if you can bear extreme low temperatures.
